    World Cup in Cape Town!

    Posted on 04 March 2010

I’m thinking now all of the soccer fans around the world are ready for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The games will begin on June 11 until July 11 of 2010 in nine difference cities.

The Cape Town is one of a nice city in? the southern country. Thanks to the fresh water stream coming off Table Mountain, The Dutch landed first, establishing a settlement in 1652 to supply the ships of the Dutch East India company between Europe and the East. The Khoisan tribes were already in the area. The British followed the Dutch and they both brought slaves from around the world. Here is a city with many cultures and many celebrations, part African, part European and part something new altogether. With the Cape Winelands and the Garden Route nearby it is the perfect place to begin your exploration of South Africa.

I wish that I could be there for the World Cup final game!

  • Here’s a great guide on how to teach English in Africa. I highly suggest going to Asia for better living conditions though.
    clipped from www.workabroadblog.com
Katie Lowe decided that she wanted to take a year off from school before entering university in England, so she traveled to Uganda to teach for a month. She contacted a program called Teach Inn (http://www.teachinnuganda.com/), which was a volunteer organization that worked with schools in Nyakasiru, a city that is seven hours away from the capital, in the mountains. After a quick introduction to the culture there, as well as an online Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) course, she was ready to go. Though she was a “muzungu (foreign person), she was able to connect with her kids and enjoy her time there.

  • Make sure to bring some food for elephants when you go to Africa. I am still afraid of going due to all the “diseases” out there.

    Elephant 1

This sequence of photographs was sent to me by a friend in South Africa. Elephants are a familiar sight around some of the regions more remote bush camps and park rest camps. Like black bears they are attracted by the availability of food, in particular fruit and vegetables, but unlike black bears slinging your tucker in a tree is a waste of time
